The Federal Government has decided to block debate of the Stopping PEP-11 Bill despite opposition to the project from Prime Minister Scott Morrison and a group of Liberal MPs. PEP-11, or Petroleum Exploration Permit 11, is a 4,576-square-kilometre lease operated by Advent Energy to drill for oil and gas just off the coast from Manly to Newcastle in New South Wales. New technology is bringing Queensland one step closer to a $1 billion sustainable, export-oriented industrial biotechnology and bioproducts sector. Mercurius has finalised commissioning and is about to commence operations at its pilot plant that will produce valuable renewable chemicals, diesel and jet fuel from sugarcane waste.
