BiSN achieves 500 commercial deployments milestone

Innovative sealing solutions provider BiSN has reached a significant milestone, announcing 500 commercial deployments of its wel-lok technology across more than 20 countries worldwide.

This achievement marks a rapid acceleration in the adoption of BiSN’s bismuth-based sealing technology, with the last 100 deployments occurring in less than a year.

BiSN’s wel-lok technology has been deployed in all major energy-producing regions, including North America, South America, UK & Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and Australia.

The company has experienced record-setting growth in 2024, with increasing demand from operators worldwide.

Paul Carragher, Founder and CEO of BiSN, noted: “Major operators around the globe are realising how effective wel-lok technology is for applications throughout the life cycle of a well, in addition to new industries.”

The technology has also seen its first deployments in gas storage and carbon capture projects, signalling new areas of growth and interest.

To support its expansion, BiSN has opened new facilities in key locations:

  • Perth, Australia
  • Macáe, Brazil
  • Stavanger, Norway (research centre)
  • Aberdeen, Scotland (operations base)

Arild Stein, Senior Vice President of Research and Development, emphasised the importance of this strategy, stating, “It is critical for BiSN to be where our clients are”.

This approach allows for the development of successful partnerships with operators and expansion into new industries.

BiSN continues to refine and develop wel-lok technology for various applications, including:

  • Well intervention
  • Completion
  • Plug and abandonment
  • Gas storage
  • Hydrogen storage
  • Carbon capture

The company is committed to partnering with operators and providers to prioritise permanent sealing and lower emissions through operational efficiency.

Stein highlighted the suitability of bismuth as a sealing material for corrosive environments in CCS and gas storage projects, noting its impermeability and non-corrosive properties.

As BiSN celebrates this milestone, the company looks forward to further growth and innovation in the field of engineered sealing solutions, contributing to the success of large-scale storage projects and addressing the evolving needs of the energy industry.
