Expro (NYSE: XPRO) has unveiled Solus™, a new high-debris single shear and seal ball valve system designed to transform subsea well access for the global oil and gas industry.
Replacing the conventional two-valve configuration with a single, integrated mechanism, Solus™ simplifies operations, reduces risk, and enhances safety.
It is the first fully NACE MR0175 compliant, fail-close, bi-directional high-debris ball valve system capable of shearing and sealing on wireline and coiled tubing — a significant advancement validated under API Std 17G testing.
With applications spanning the entire well lifecycle, from exploration and appraisal through to plug and abandonment (P&A) and decommissioning, the Solus™ valve can be deployed in both in-riser and open-water systems.
It has already demonstrated its versatility in the Gulf of America for a new in-riser completions project, as well as in a North Sea P&A campaign.
The system can shear and seal on slick line, braided electrical cable, and coiled tubing, offering bi-directional sealing for both gas and liquids even after pump-through operations.
Incorporated within Expro’s lightweight P&A Open Water Intervention Riser System (OWIRS), Solus™ delivers operational flexibility by achieving shear and seal functionality in a single valve.
Its modular, compact design supports isolation and disconnection from the well, aligning with the industry’s move toward smaller blowout preventer (BOP) stacks and streamlined subsea infrastructure.
Beyond efficiency, the fail-close mechanism provides an additional well safety barrier, reducing emission risks and reinforcing Expro’s reputation for system integrity and reliability.
Its high-debris capability, qualified for 15 per cent solids ingress, ensures robust performance across the varied conditions encountered during well intervention operations.
Daniel More, Vice President Subsea Well Access at Expro, emphasised the significance of the launch, stating: “In introducing Solus™, Expro now offers the subsea engineering market a distinctive new system that provides the ultimate integrated shear and seal on coiled tubing and wire using just a single valve.
“Solus™ cuts through operational complexity.
“Simple to use, flexible, with a compact design for smaller BOP stack sizes, this is the latest in fail-safe technology developed by the experts of valve technology and systems integration.
“When there’s no room for error, Solus™ is designed to provide the assurance of an independent well safety barrier, combined with the surety and confidence that comes from Expro’s integration experience and expertise at the ‘whole system’ level.
“It’s the latest example of Expro’s engineering excellence and deep understanding of customer needs to move our industry forward.”
Solus™ reinforces Expro’s 40-year legacy in subsea innovation and engineering leadership.
It is available within the company’s ELSA landing string assemblies portfolio, offering modular deployment as a single valve, a single valve with a latch mechanism, within a subsea test tree, or integrated in an OWIRS configuration.
Expro will showcase Solus™ in greater detail during a live webinar on March 4, 2026.
