F.E.S. TANKS has supplied the bulk storage tanks for Viva Energy’s new $25 million lubricant facility in Karratha, a major project expected to significantly streamline lubricant supply chains across Western Australia’s Pilbara region.
The newly opened facility includes a state-of-the-art bulk lubricant tank farm featuring 14 containerised bulk storage tanks with a combined capacity of 2.4 million litres.
The installation comprises ten 200-kilolitre tanks and four 100-kilolitre tanks, purpose-built to store 10 different oil-based lubricants.
As part of the infrastructure delivery, F.E.S. TANKS coordinated with Nqpetro — the project’s main contractor — to design and supply not only the tanks but also key supporting infrastructure.
This included 10 tonnes of walkways and handrailing along with 360 tonnes of storage tanks, marking a substantial enhancement to Viva Energy’s Karratha operations.
The new facility operates as part of a 1,000-litre-per-minute lubricant loading and unloading management system designed and installed by Nqpetro.
Together, the new tanks and accompanying infrastructure will allow Viva Energy to reduce road freight by approximately 450,000 kilometres annually, cutting both transport costs and emissions for customers across the Pilbara’s mining, oil and gas, and construction sectors.
F.E.S. TANKS worked closely with Nqpetro throughout the project to ensure the design, manufacturing, and delivery of the tank systems met stringent performance and quality standards.
The collaboration emphasised precision engineering and durability, vital for infrastructure operating in one of Australia’s most demanding climates.
F.E.S. TANKS Director Daryl Cygler said the company’s involvement underscored its commitment to reliability and quality in challenging industrial environments.
“Our involvement as the storage tank supplier for this major project is testament to the F.E.S. team’s commitment to high-quality products built for Australian conditions,” Cygler said.
“We’re incredibly proud to be involved in a project like this.”
Cygler conveyed that the project exemplifies precision engineering, with their tanks serving as the core storage solution.
He described the collaborative effort with Nqpetro and Viva as demanding but necessary to achieve a high-quality outcome.
Cygler emphasised the facility’s significance in supporting industries operating in Australia’s most challenging and remote environments, expressing pride in contributing to a project that will have a substantial positive impact on the Pilbara region and beyond.
Nqpetro Commercial Projects Director Anton White highlighted the choice of F.E.S. containerised tanks as integral to the project’s success.
“Choosing F.E.S. containerised tanks was driven by their strong reputation and quality assurance, ensuring reliability for this critical hydrocarbons storage solution,” White said.
“Delivering the tanks directly into Dampier port minimised transportation challenges, while partnering with F.E.S. enabled a comprehensive system installation—including walkways, stairways, and tank top access—offering a seamless, one-stop solution.”
The Karratha facility underscores Viva Energy’s ongoing investment in regional infrastructure, ensuring greater efficiency and resilience in lubricant supply to support the Pilbara’s industrial growth.
