Halliburton Energy Services (NYSE: HAL) and Coterra Energy Inc. (NYSE: CTRA) have unveiled a revolutionary autonomous hydraulic fracturing technology in North America.
The Octiv Auto Frac service, part of Halliburton’s ZEUS platform, automates stage delivery execution with a single button press, marking a significant advancement in the oil and gas industry.
Coterra Energy has become the first operator to fully automate and control both their hydraulic fracturing design and execution, leveraging this cutting-edge technology.
The Octiv Auto Frac service enhances Halliburton’s Zeus intelligent fracturing platform, which includes electric pumping units and the Sensori fracture monitoring service.
This innovative system replaces the previously manual fracture decision-making process during pumping operations.
Coterra can now configure the Octiv Auto Frac service to execute designs according to their specifications, automating the entire fracture process.
The initial implementation of this service has yielded impressive results, with a 17 per cent increase in stage efficiency.
Encouraged by this success, Coterra has expanded the deployment of the Octiv Auto Frac service to its remaining completion programs executed by Halliburton in the Permian Basin.
Shawn Stasiuk, Halliburton’s vice president of Production Enhancement, emphasised the transformative nature of this technology: “Octiv Auto Frac changes the game of completion performance.
“The service ensures that automation delivers consistent fracture execution every stage while giving our customers the control they demand over their assets.
“The Octiv Auto Frac service is the first system to deliver on this promise.”
Tom Jorden, CEO of Coterra, highlighted the alignment of this technology with their operational goals, stating: “Coterra remains focused on maximising efficiencies and exploring new opportunities to improve our operations.
“The deployment of intelligent automation for hydraulic fracturing helps us execute stages consistently and provides us with more autonomy and control over the completion process.”
This breakthrough in hydraulic fracturing technology represents a significant step forward in operational efficiency and control for oil and gas companies.
As the industry continues to evolve, innovations like the Octiv Auto Frac service are poised to play a crucial role in shaping the future of energy production.
