Halliburton has been awarded a major contract to support the Northern Endurance Partnership’s (NEP) carbon capture and storage (CCS) system, a key element of the East Coast Cluster (ECC) in north-east England.
Under the agreement, Halliburton will deliver completions and downhole monitoring services to the NEP project.
The majority of the specialised CCS equipment will be manufactured at the company’s completion manufacturing facility in Arbroath, Scotland — a plant with more than 50 years of experience supporting North Sea energy operations.
The site houses advanced manufacturing capabilities alongside on-site product development and testing facilities.
Jean-Marc Lopez, Halliburton’s senior vice-president for Europe, Eurasia and sub-Saharan Africa, said: “Halliburton is pleased to develop and deliver innovative well completions and monitoring solutions for this groundbreaking carbon storage project.
“This project allows expansion of our completions activity and showcases Halliburton’s leadership in CCS projects.
“We look forward to the opportunity to deliver our services to support the NEP project.”
The NEP’s CCS infrastructure will manage an integrated CO₂ collection network, onshore compression facilities, a 145-kilometre offshore pipeline, and subsea injection and monitoring systems targeting the Endurance saline aquifer, located about 1,000 metres beneath the seabed.
Once operational, the system aims to transport and permanently store up to an initial four million tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.
Established in 2020, the Northern Endurance Partnership is the ECC’s dedicated CO₂ transportation and storage provider.
The joint venture — comprising Equinor, bp, and TotalEnergies — will handle emissions from two of the UK’s largest industrial hubs, Teesside and Humber.
Earlier in 2025, Halliburton also secured a five-year contract with Repsol Resources UK to enhance well lifecycle performance at Repsol’s UK North Sea platform assets, reinforcing the company’s position in the region’s energy transition initiatives.
