Woodside Energy celebrates 70 years with special documentary

19 Jul, 2024
Woodside reports successful reserves update as a result of merger with BHP

Woodside Energy, Australia’s largest energy company, is marking its 70th anniversary with a special television documentary titled “Real Energy: 70 Years of Woodside”.

The production, created in collaboration with Sky News Australia, offers an in-depth look at the company’s journey from a small oil explorer to a global top 10 LNG producer.

The 30-minute documentary features Sky News Business Editor Ross Greenwood interviewing Woodside CEO Meg O’Neill, exploring the company’s growth and the challenges it faced along the way.

It highlights key milestones in Woodside’s history, including the establishment of the North West Shelf Joint Venture in Western Australia 40 years ago and the bold decision to undertake the Pluto LNG Project.

The program also delves into Woodside’s recent evolution following its merger with BHP Petroleum and its exploration of new energy opportunities.

A significant portion of the documentary is dedicated to showcasing Woodside’s contributions to the local communities where it operates.

In addition to O’Neill, the documentary features interviews with several prominent figures, including Woodside Chair Richard Goyder, Western Australia Premier Roger Cook, former federal Minister for Resources and Energy Martin Ferguson, and former Woodside CEOs.

It also includes perspectives from current Woodside employees, providing a comprehensive view of the company’s impact and culture.

Michelle Grady, Woodside VP Corporate Affairs, expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating: “We have really enjoyed working with the Sky News team to bring Woodside’s incredible 70-year story to life. Australians can be very proud of what Woodside has achieved in becoming a global top 10 LNG producer. It’s an achievement worth celebrating and this production reveals how we did it.”

“Real Energy: 70 Years of Woodside” is set to premiere on Sky News Australia at 3:30 PM AWST on Sunday, July 21.

Viewers can watch the special on various platforms, including the Sky News Australia app, Foxtel, and Sky News Regional, or stream it online at skynews.com.au or on Flash.

This documentary serves as a testament to Woodside Energy’s significant role in Australia’s energy sector and its evolution into a global energy powerhouse over the past seven decades.
