Strohm, the world’s leading thermoplastic composite pipe (TCP) company, has successfully overseen the installation of its TCP Jumper technology at the Deepwater Sabah project offshore Malaysia.
This marks the second deployment of Strohm’s TCP product in Malaysia, following the installation of a TCP Flowline and static riser at the shallow water West Lutong field for Petronas in 2017.
The installation was carried out by contractor McDermott on behalf of an international operator.
The project team maximised the flexibility of the Jumper on Demand concept, utilising two 150-metre-long TCP Jumpers that were delivered in 2021 and stored until the associated infrastructure at the field was ready.
The TCP Jumpers were spooled onto subsea pallets for installation from the transport reel.
Despite being in storage for several years, the jumpers did not develop residual bends due to the pipe’s minimal memory effect.
The spooling process from a vertical drum to a horizontal pallet did not induce significant torsional effects, facilitating an easy, fast, and successful subsea installation.
TCP offers a non-metallic, durable, and corrosion-free solution for operators.
Notably, TCP for subsea jumpers, flowlines, and risers has been proven to reduce the CO2 footprint of pipeline infrastructures by more than 50 per cent.

The successful installation at the Deepwater Sabah project further solidifies TCP’s position as a preferred solution for deepwater applications.
