Pre-commissioning, commissioning, maintenance and shutdown specialist, WSG Eftech has continued its expansion into Australia’s major projects market with an estimated AU$60 million worth of recently awarded contracts.
The scope of works awarded span the energy and infrastructure sectors, including key wins on a major urban infrastructure project in New South Wales, Clough Webuild’s Waitsia Gas Project Stage 2 in Western Australia, and Santos’ Darwin LNG Life Extension Project in the Northern Territory.
Andrew Manning, Managing Director of WSG Eftech, says the latest raft of contracts has laid the foundation for a successful period of growth for the business over the next three years. “We have extended relationships with Beach Energy, Clough Webuild, and Santos, so are encouraged by the opportunity to further strengthen these ties,” he says.
WSG Eftech has been commissioned by Beach Energy to supply ME&I services to its Cooper Basin operations in South Australia. The five-year maintenance contract involves planning, engineering and the installation of all well site mechanical, and electrical and instrumentation equipment, including power generation, artificial lift and the construction of piping and flowlines to storage facilities.
Santos has also awarded WSG Eftech with the flange management scope of works on its Darwin LNG Life Extension Project, which follows its award of the nitrogen services campaign in 2022. With planning underway, mobilisation is expected to start in the first quarter of 2024, with an anticipated duration of up to two years. The contract will be serviced from WSG Eftech’s Adelaide and Darwin facilities, where it has an extensive fleet of equipment and will have up to 30 staff engaged during peak times.
Eftech first commenced working with Santos in 2016 (following its acquisition of the Veranus Island asset from Quadrant) to deliver a range of mechanical engineering services, including nitrogen, helium leak testing, oil flushing, machining, and safety valve certification and overhaul. Manning attributes the longevity of WSG Eftech’s relationship with Santos to its expertise, flexibility and responsiveness.o be integrated on multiple 45ft trailered systems with hard pipe connections and full PLC operation, heavily reducing the number of operators needed to manage the entire package.
Operating with a crew of just 12 personnel, delivering zero equipment failures, and maintaining a total commitment to personnel and process safety, Eftech drew industry-wide praise for what was deemed to be a flawless performance.
WSG Eftech has continued to build on this reputation for excellence, whilst expanding its domestic footprint with strategically located bases in key energy hubs, including Adelaide and Darwin.
“Local delivery has been a key differentiator for us; we are increasingly able to call on locally skilled workforces to deliver a more agile, flexible and responsive service to our clients,” says Manning.
Manning says following WSG Eftech’s completion of its first major shutdown project on behalf of a leading operator in November 2022, and where it delivered nitrogen purging and testing at a Queensland LNG facility, a dedicated workshop will be established in Gladstone to support similar work in the region.
“The global reach and resources of WSG means we now have access to an even larger and more highly-skilled pool of personnel and state-of-the-art equipment, something that provides us with a solid base for continued expansion. We will be looking to increase our headcount through local recruitment, whilst continuing to build our footprint in Queensland, New South Wales, and other prime locations.”
“We have a shared vision for project outcomes and have consistently demonstrated our capacity and willingness to rapidly adapt to Santos’ requirements; similarly, we have found Santos to be a great client to work with.”
Eftech’s performance on the Conoco Phillips DLNG Shutdown in 2017/18 cemented its reputation as one of the industry’s most valued maintenance and shutdown service providers.
Custom designed and built by Eftech for the shutdown, its onshore nitrogen spread allowed all equipment to be integrated on multiple 45ft trailered systems with hard pipe connections and full PLC operation, heavily reducing the number of operators needed to manage the entire package.
