An Australian made innovation recently launched onto the market, Moon Deck provides a range of innovative new products which are designed to assist industry and mitigate workplace health and safety issues. Moon Deck feature products include luminous, hard-wearing Stair Nosings to provide illumination and safety in areas of complete darkness, low light or in remote areas without access to power.

Moon Deck luminous surface coatings can also be applied in full broadcast pathways, line-marking or feature logo designs as well as way-finding directional arrows and also directly onto equipment and machinery for operational visibility.

Moon Deck Stair Nosings and surface applications have a luminous coating which is ultra-tough, slip-resistant and cost-effective due to its long life span.  The range of Moon Deck coatings allow for hazard identification in areas of darkness, or in emergency situations where lighting may be compromised.  The luminous coating of Moon Deck continually recharges itself by harnessing all forms of light, including daylight (even in shaded areas) and artificial lighting.  The highly visible ‘glow’ emitted in darkness is long-lasting and will continue throughout the entire night into the early hours of the morning, providing sufficient exposure to light has been received.

MOON DECK – COMPOSITION AND SAFETY STANDARDS:

Moon Deck’s trademarked multi-layered compounded Methyl Methacrylate (MMA) Resin provides a luminous Coating System designed and manufactured for industrial and commercial safety wayfinding solutions in an emergency power blackout, smoke inundation, public or workplace areas with no or low powered lighting.  The MMA component of Moon Deck supports its extreme chemical adhesion strength on any well-prepared substrate including composite FRP grid mesh surfaces that are commonly used throughout the offshore industry, and where previous products have been unsuccessful.  Moon Deck’s MMA resins have the ultimate aggregate holding tensile strength, far exceeding all premium epoxy paints.

Moon Deck provides an extreme duty, non-slip quality surface, with or without the luminous element and its high friction trafficable application is not affected by chemicals, acids or oils.

Moon Deck is suitable for commercial and industrial use, meeting all work health and safety requirements with environmental approval.   Moon Deck meets all current NATA certified Australian slip-resistant standards AS 4586:2013 class P5, being the highest standard achievable.

MOON DECK – HISTORY:

The company began in early 2014 with an invitation from NSW Dept of Transport, in a pilot project to take part in their ‘Transport for NSW Gosford Passing Loops Project’.  Initially, we were instructed to deliver a form of illumination normally associated with ‘Glow in the Dark’ novelty products or paints.

This request posed significant ecological, environmental, health and safety concerns due to the concentration of highly phosphorous copper activated zinc sulphide and toxic coating binders used.

Our primary goal was foremost to design and deliver a system that would be commercially viable and enduring – not just for short term decorative application. Yet, more importantly, we sought to meet all work health and safety requirements and environmental approval using the combination of biological and chemically inert natural components plus low VOC coatings.

For this project, our purpose was to design and construct an innovative, non-electrically generated illumination system for a shared pedestrian and cycleway within a rail corridor as part of the upgrade project. This system enables a safer passage for local commuters in darkness without the aid of overhead street lighting infrastructure.

During the early development stages, it became significantly evident to further include the potential to apply the surface coating to a broad range of applications that may resolve various challenging Work Health and Safety issues.  It was from this process that the Moon Deck Stair Nosings and Wayfinding Signs were developed.

MOON DECK – THE FUTURE:

Use of Moon Deck products has endless applications and possibilities.  Our surface coatings can be applied to almost any suitably prepared substrate such as concrete, asphalt, timber, composite or primed ferrous or non-ferrous metal substrates. The finished surface provides long-lasting, outstanding results, minimising workplace health and safety issues and incident reporting and helps support improvements in safety. Moon Deck can assist management and staff in the oil and petroleum industry by providing workplace health and safety solutions to all areas of production, manufacturing and warehousing.

THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT WITH MOON DECK LIGHTING THE WAY.

Our company has worked on projects Australia-wide, with the City of Marion, SA; Brisbane City Council, Rochedale project, QLD; East Gippsland Shire Council, Raymond Island Ferry project and Bairnsdale Aerodrome, VIC;  Ardennes Community Park, Edmondson NSW;  City of Cockburn, WA;  Woodside, Karratha, WA; Logan City Council, QLD; Dyers Trucks Bairnsdale, VIC, Department of Transport and Main Roads, Samford Cycle Project, QLD; City of Bunbury, Brockman Park Project, WA; with Moon Deck Stair Nosings used by major organisations such as Sun Water in Queensland, Rio Tinto, BHP, and Woodside Petroleum just to name a few.  Our company and projects we have been involved with have won numerous awards.

At this stage, Moon Deck can only be installed by our own contractors nationally, however, in future, a training and support package will be made available for additional contractors in regions where the market demands.
