ExxonMobil has commenced production from its Yellowtail project, the fourth oil development in Guyana’s offshore Stabroek block, marking a major milestone for the company and the country.
Production started ahead of schedule, four months earlier than planned, with the deployment of the ONE GUYANA floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel, the largest of its kind in Guyana’s offshore sector.
The ONE GUYANA FPSO is designed to produce an average of 250,000 barrels of oil per day and has a crude oil storage capacity of two million barrels.
This new facility boosts Guyana’s total installed production capacity to over 900,000 barrels per day, significantly up from the combined output of the previous three FPSOs — Destiny, Unity, and Prosperity — operating in the region.
The oil produced will be marketed under the name Golden Arrowhead crude.
Yellowtail development includes production from both the Yellowtail and Redtail fields and utilises advanced subsea infrastructure with 26 production wells and 25 water-alternating-gas injection wells, maximising extraction efficiency.
Positioned at a water depth of around 1,800 meters, the FPSO also features enhanced gas processing capabilities with installed sparing on all compressors to ensure operational continuity even during maintenance.
Dan Ammann, president of ExxonMobil Upstream Company, emphasised the project’s significance, highlighting the strong involvement of Guyanese workers, who now represent more than 67 per cent of the oil-and-gas workforce, and the engagement of over 2,000 local businesses.
He described Yellowtail as a reflection of ExxonMobil’s deepening roots in Guyana and its commitment to inclusive and long-term growth.
ExxonMobil Guyana Limited operates the Stabroek block with a 45 per cent interest, partnered by Hess Guyana Exploration Ltd. (30%) and CNOOC Petroleum Guyana Limited (25%).
The company expects total production capacity in Guyana to reach 1.7 million barrels of oil equivalent per day from eight developments by 2030, continuing its successful track record of launching offshore mega-projects under budget and ahead of schedule.
