Petro-Victory Energy has commenced drilling operations at the SJ-12 well in the São João Field, located within the Barreirinhas Basin of Maranhão, Brazil.
The activity marks a key milestone in the company’s strategy to unlock non-associated gas resources as part of its broader Brazilian onshore energy portfolio.
The drilling of SJ-12 follows Petro-Victory’s previously announced commitment under a memorandum of understanding that included the delivery of a single gas well.
The company holds a 100 per cent working interest and operatorship of the São João Field, following the approval of its acquisition by Brazil’s Agência Nacional do Petróleo in August 2022.
According to an independent reserve and resource evaluation conducted by GLJ in December 2024, the São João Field holds best estimate (2C) development pending contingent resources with risked volumes of 50.1 billion cubic feet of non-associated gas.
The current drilling and testing program at SJ-12 is expected to confirm the deliverability needed to progress initial commercialisation efforts for local gas supply.
The company intends for production from São João to serve regional industrial and power generation markets, alongside other tailored market arrangements designed for developments of this scale.
Regulatory oversight remains in place across all phases of work, with Petro-Victory continuing to coordinate its operations in compliance with national energy frameworks and environmental approvals.
Petro-Victory’s focus on accelerating gas commercialisation aligns with Brazil’s increasing demand for domestic energy sources and transition initiatives toward lower-carbon fuels.
The project is viewed as an integral step in the company’s strategy to diversify output beyond oil while leveraging its existing upstream capabilities.
Beyond the São João development, Petro-Victory continues to strengthen its operational footprint across Brazil.
The company currently manages 49 concession contracts covering approximately 276,755 net acres, along with six additional concessions spanning 19,074 acres under joint ownership with BlueOak through the Capixaba Energia partnership.
These assets represent a geographically diverse exploration and production base positioned for both oil and gas growth opportunities.
In parallel with its gas initiatives, Petro-Victory also reached a key operational milestone in 2025 with the completion of drilling activities at the AND-5 well in the Andorinha Field, located in the Potiguar Basin of Rio Grande do Norte.
The project, executed in partnership with Azevedo & Travassos Energia, utilised the Drake-2 hydraulic onshore rig and incorporated advanced well evaluation services provided by Halliburton.
Following wireline logging and the installation of a 7-inch nominal production casing to final depth, conventional petrophysical analysis identified 13 metres of net pay across four oil-bearing zones, supporting future production plans and demonstrating continued drilling efficiency within the company’s broader operational framework.
Together, these ongoing programs underline Petro-Victory Energy’s commitment to advancing its exploration and development portfolio across multiple Brazilian basins.
The company’s near-term focus remains on achieving measurable gas deliverability from the SJ-12 well, strengthening its position as a key independent player in Brazil’s evolving upstream energy sector.
