Tamboran Resources and joint venture partner Daly Waters Energy (DWE) have commenced initial gas sales from their Shenandoah South Pilot Project, marking the first time commercial gas from the Beetaloo Basin has flowed into the Northern Territory market.
The milestone represents a key step for the local energy market, bringing locally sourced natural gas into the regional supply grid.
Deliveries are expected to progressively ramp up to 40 terajoules per day (TJ/d), which is fully contracted to the Northern Territory government under a long-term take-or-pay agreement.
Full commercial production and completion of field commissioning are targeted for early 2027. During the ongoing commissioning phase, gas is being supplied to the Northern Territory network at a discounted rate to account for the interruptible nature of supply while operational systems are tuned.
“Over the weekend, Tamboran and our joint venture partner DWE delivered our first molecules of gas from the Beetaloo Basin into the Northern Territory gas network,” said Tamboran Resources CEO Todd Abbott.
“This marks a major milestone for the Beetaloo Basin, the Northern Territory and our key stakeholders, who will start to see the economic benefit of locally supplied energy.”
Abbott noted that unlocking the unconventional shale play establishes a foundation for broader national energy security.
“This is an important first step towards establishing the Beetaloo Basin as a reliable, long-term source of natural gas for the Northern Territory and, over time, the broader Australian East Coast market,” he added.
“We look forward to ramping up to full contracted volumes and completing commissioning by early 2027 as we continue to unlock the significant potential of the Beetaloo Basin.”
Tamboran expects the initial pilot flows to validate the commercial viability of the basin as it prepares to scale up production to supply local customers and support future interstate market connections.
