TotalEnergies and Turkey’s national oil and gas company Türkiye Petrolleri Anonim Ortaklığı (TPAO) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on exploration opportunities.
The MoU establishes a formal framework for technical cooperation and the joint assessment of potential energy exploration projects.
This agreement marks a significant step for both organisations, combining their respective technical expertise to identify and evaluate exploration opportunities.
The primary focus of the partnership is the Black Sea region of Türkiye, though the scope of the cooperation also extends to international projects, aiming to leverage the capabilities of both companies on a mutually beneficial basis.
Nicola Mavilla, Senior Vice-President of Exploration at TotalEnergies, said: “We are pleased to launch this cooperation with TPAO, leveraging the technical expertise of both companies to evaluate exploration opportunities in the Black Sea region and internationally.”
The agreement is the latest in a number of partnerships TPAO has signed with international gas and oil majors.
In February, TPOA and Shell agreed to partner for offshore exploration in Bulgaria. The Turkish firm also signed MoUs with Chevron and BP.
Turkey is targeting greater energy diversification through its exploration in the Black Sea and with international partnerships.
