North America’s largest transportation fuel provider Clean Energy Fuels Corp. has secured two separate contracts to design and install LNG fuelling systems for gas-to-power applications in Puerto Rico.
The major deals, signed with infrastructure developer P.R. Energy Partners and a prominent global healthcare supplier, will collectively fuel 10 megawatts of installed power, significantly bolstering energy security and grid resilience on the island.
Under the first agreement, Clean Energy will supply LNG station equipment and handle installation to support the local manufacturing operations of a multinational pharmaceutical company.
Seeking a dependable primary energy source to avoid local grid instability, the healthcare provider chose natural gas and dedicated LNG infrastructure to lock in operational reliability.
Concurrently, Clean Energy has partnered with P.R. Energy Partners, an end-to-end energy solutions distributor.
The California-headquartered firm will design and construct a specialised LNG supply station to fuel a six-megawatt combined heat and power (CHP) plant.
This facility will power luxury residential and hotel developments on the island.

The projects represent Clean Energy’s maiden LNG supply infrastructure deals in Puerto Rico, signalling a strategic expansion beyond its traditional transport markets into diverse industrial energy services.

By transitioning from traditional diesel or heavy fuel oil to modular LNG infrastructure, both clients are expected to substantially lower their greenhouse gas emissions while maintaining uninterrupted primary and backup power.
LNG is a cleaner-burning fuel that helps reduce emissions compared to traditional energy sources like diesel or fuel oil.
