Shell has agreed to buy 100,000 barrels of petrol from Indonesia’s state energy firm Pertamina, following weeks of unavailability for certain fuels.
Deputy Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Yuliot Tanjung confirmed that Shell Indonesia has reached an agreement with Pertamina, Jakarta Globe reported.
Pertamina holds exclusive rights to import fuels into Indonesia, meaning private retailers had to import petrol through Pertamina after the government capped their import quota in early September.
Pertamina Patra Niaga, the company’s downstream sales division, said 100,000 barrels of fuel have been sold to fuel retailer PT Vivo Energi Indonesia, an affiliate of Vitol Group.
Vivo cancelled 40,000 barrels from a 100,000-barrel cargo in October after laboratory testing found 3.5 per cent ethanol content in the shipment.
Private fuel retailers have negotiated terms for purchasing base fuel from Pertamina, including requirements for unblended fuel.
