Engineering firm McDermott has secured a mega engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) contract worth over US$1 billion (AU$1.48 billion) from the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) to advance development at the offshore Umm Shaif field in the United Arab Emirates.
Under Package 4 of the Umm Shaif Integrated Gas Cap and Surface Pressure Boosting (SPB) Project, McDermott, partnering in a consortium with Qingdao McDermott Wuchuan (QMW), will deliver a new offshore surface pressure boosting facility.
The scope of work encompasses the construction and installation of a jacket and topside, along with associated brownfield modifications. Upon installation, the topside module is set to rank among the heaviest offshore structures ever deployed in the Middle East.
The project forms a cornerstone of ADNOC’s Umm Shaif Long Term Development Plan, aimed at boosting gas production and maximising long-term recovery to support the UAE’s expanding energy infrastructure.

Engineering and project management will be executed from McDermott’s offices within the United Arab Emirates, while primary fabrication works will take place at the QMW joint venture yard in Qingdao, China.
