Mermaid Subsea Services (UK) has successfully completed a challenging wellhead severance project in the Southern North Sea, marking a significant achievement for the company’s decommissioning portfolio.
The operation, executed from the Island Valiant vessel, required meticulous coordination among multiple vendors to ensure seamless delivery and was completed safely, on schedule, and within budget.
Previous attempts to remove the target well had failed, presenting Mermaid with a complex technical challenge.
The company responded by deploying dedicated precision subsea tooling and leveraging its project management expertise to sever and recover the well conductor.
All work was carried out in strict compliance with environmental and regulatory standards.
Scott Cormack, Regional Director for Mermaid Subsea Services (UK), commented on the achievement: “This successful wellhead severance marks a major achievement for Mermaid.
“By overcoming previous challenges, we’ve demonstrated our capability to deliver complex decommissioning scopes safely, efficiently, and in line with regulations.”
The successful wellhead severance is the latest in a series of high-profile projects for Mermaid Subsea Services (UK) in 2025.
Earlier this year, the company announced the safe and successful completion of a scale inhibitor treatment on the Teal P2 well, part of the Anasuria Cluster in the Central North Sea.
Also conducted from the Island Valiant, this intervention was performed on behalf of Anasuria Operating Company (AOC) and is designed to safeguard production flow and well integrity for at least three years.
These recent projects highlight Mermaid’s growing capabilities in complex subsea operations and its strong collaborative relationships with industry partners.
Looking ahead, the company plans to introduce its own dive vessel later in 2025, further expanding its service offering.
Meanwhile, limited availability remains for the Island Valiant, which Mermaid has chartered for a second consecutive year to support ongoing and future operations.
