RBC Capital Markets was the top mergers and acquisitions (M&A) financial adviser in the oil and gas sector in 2022 by value as well as volume, according to the latest financial advisers league table by GlobalData.
Based on its Financial Deals Database, the data and analytics company has revealed that RBC Capital Markets achieved this leading position by advising on 22 deals worth US$25.7 billion, respectively.
Aurojyoti Bose, Lead Analyst at GlobalData, said: “RBC Capital Markets was the top advisor by volume in 2021 and managed to retain its leadership in 2022 as well.
“Meanwhile, a significant shift took place in its ranking by value from eighth position in 2021 to the top position in 2022.
“Most of the top advisers by value witnessed decline in 2022 compared to the previous year.
“In fact, RBC Capital Markets also registered decline but it was relatively less compared to most of its peers.”
JP Morgan occupied the second position in terms of value, by advising on US$23.6 billion worth of deals, followed by Goldman Sachs with US$19.9 billion, Citi with US$19.1 billion and Jefferies with US$15.7 billion.
Meanwhile, Jefferies occupied the second position in terms of volume with 18 deals, followed by JP Morgan with 14 deals, Evercore with 14 deals and Citi with 13 deals.
Vinson & Elkins was the top mergers and acquisitions (M&A) legal adviser in the sector in 2022 by value as well as volume, according to GlobalData’s league tables.
Based on its Financial Deals Database, the leading data and analytics company has revealed that Vinson & Elkins achieved this position by advising on 44 deals worth US$39.5 billion.
Bose continued: “Vinson & Elkins, which occupied the top position by both value and volume in 2021, also managed to retain its leadership in 2022 as well.
“However, the competition for the top position was tough in 2022.
“Kirkland & Ellis was just shy of two deals and a little more than US$2 billion to occupy the top spot by volume and value, respectively.”
Kirkland & Ellis occupied the second position by value as well as volume by advising on 42 deals worth $37 billion.
Bose added: “Interestingly, the top five positions by value as well as volume in 2022 were occupied by the same set of advisers.”
Latham & Watkins, Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher and Baker Botts occupied the third, fourth and fifth positions in terms of both value and volume by advising on 29 deals worth US$32.2 billion, 18 deals worth US$18.4 billion, and 18 deals worth US$15.4 billion, respectively.
