Worley selected for Alaska LNG pipeline engineering

Worley Limited (ASX: WOR) has confirmed its selection by Glenfarne Alaska LNG, LLC — a subsidiary of Glenfarne Group, LLC — to deliver engineering services and a final cost estimate for the landmark Alaska LNG Pipeline, a critical step toward the project’s anticipated Financial Investment Decision (FID) in late 2025.

The Alaska LNG Pipeline, valued at $10.8 billion, is a centrepiece of Glenfarne’s ambitious Alaska LNG development.

The project encompasses a proposed 1,300 km (807-mile) natural gas pipeline stretching from Alaska’s North Slope to the southern coast near Anchorage, a gas treatment plant, an LNG import terminal, and an LNG export facility.

Once completed, the pipeline will transport enough natural gas to satisfy both Alaska’s domestic energy requirements and supply the full 20 million tonnes per annum capacity of the Alaska LNG export facility.

Worley’s role involves supplementing previously completed engineering work and providing enhanced design and cost detail to support the FID process.

The company has also been named lead engineering firm for the Cook Inlet Gateway LNG import terminal and will act as project delivery advisor across Glenfarne’s Alaska LNG portfolio.

Chris Ashton, Chief Executive Officer at Worley, emphasised the significance of the engagement, stating: “We are proud to support Glenfarne in progressing this strategically significant energy infrastructure.

“Our history in Alaska spans more than 60 years, and this project aligns with our deep LNG expertise and full project delivery capability.

“We look forward to helping Glenfarne move toward FID and improve energy security for Alaska and the world.”

The Alaska LNG Pipeline is designed to be constructed in two phases.

Phase One will deliver natural gas approximately 1.2 kilometres from the North Slope to the Anchorage region.

Phase Two will add compression equipment and extend the pipeline under Cook Inlet to the LNG export facility in Nikiski, constructed concurrently with the export terminal.

This contract further cements Worley’s position as a leading provider of engineering services in the North American LNG sector, building on its extensive portfolio and more than six decades of operational experience in Alaska.
