ADX Energy Ltd. has reported a highly encouraging initial flow rate during production testing at its Hochfeld-1 shallow gas exploration well in Europe.
The company has confirmed that testing on the first of multiple gas reservoirs within the well delivered a clean-up flow averaging 2.8 million cubic feet per day, equivalent to roughly 467 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boepd).
The water-free flow rate was achieved from Zone 1, a basin floor fan reservoir interval perforated at a depth of 1465 metres.
Operations utilised a restricted 16/64-inch choke, which generated a robust flowing wellhead pressure of 940 psi, still rising at the end of the initial testing loop.
ADX will now lower downhole pressure gauges into the wellbore to flow Zone 1 at a stable rate for approximately 14 hours. The well will then be shut in for roughly two weeks to record a pressure build-up.
This data will allow technicians to accurately define the physical boundaries, extent, and connected volume of the reservoir to gauge its overall reserves potential.
The Hochfeld-1 well was drilled, cased, and completed in mid-May within the company’s ADX-AT-I exploration licence in Upper Austria, where ADX serves as the operator and retains a 50 per cent economic interest.
The well encountered a total of eight prospective gas reservoirs spread across the local Hall and Base Hall geological formations.
Production testing is being staged in two distinct phases, with the ongoing first phase evaluating up to four zones within the upper Hall formation before crews transition to the lower Base Hall targets.
Hochfeld-1 is the first of a broader three-well shallow gas exploration campaign slated for the European nation, with two additional gas prospects already fully permitted for drilling later this calendar year.
