Bass Oil Ltd. has officially kicked off drilling operations at its high-impact Bunian 6 oil development well in Indonesia.
The company confirmed that drilling at the wellsite commenced on June 5, following the completion of safety checks and compliance certification. The rig is currently preparing to drill the surface hole after setting a 20-inch conductor at a depth of 46 metres.
The low-risk development well is expected to take roughly 30 days to reach its total depth of approximately 1,820 metres, after which it will be completed and immediately brought into production.
Once online in early July, the well is expected to triple field production at the Tangai-Sukananti KSO in the prolific South Sumatra Basin, boosting output from the steady 250 barrels of oil per day (bopd) up to 750 bopd.
For Bass Oil, this represents an operational increase from 140 bopd to 410 bopd for its share, timed perfectly to capitalise on elevated global oil prices.
Located near the crest of the geological structure to accelerate drainage, Bunian 6 is targeting the primary TRM3 sandstone reservoir, which has an expected initial production rate of 500 bopd.
The well will also intersect the secondary GRM and K reservoirs, providing valuable data to assess further reserve potential across the field.
The ideal drilling location was locked in following an integrated field study, which included the advanced reprocessing of 3D seismic data. This data has already identified additional upside targets, including Bunian West and Bunian North West.
Bass Oil’s drilling expenditure is fully cost-recoverable against existing production under the terms of the KSO.
Bass Oil operates the permit with a 55 per cent majority interest, alongside joint venture partner Mega Adhyaksa Pratama Sukananti Ltd (MAPS) with 45 per cent.
