Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), operating with 100 per cent working interest in the Bobi and Dhamraki Mining Lease, has announced a substantial oil and gas discovery from its exploratory well, Bobi Deep-1, located in District Sanghar, Sindh Province.
The discovery marks the first hydrocarbon find from the Massive Sand play of the Lower Goru Formation in the area, representing a major milestone for OGDCL and for Pakistan’s domestic energy sector.
The Bobi Deep-1 exploratory well was re-entered on May 3, 2026, with the objective of evaluating the hydrocarbon potential of the massive sands of the Lower Goru Formation.
Utilising OGDCL’s in-house technical and operational capabilities, the well was drilled to a total depth of 3,305 metres, reaching the Sembar Formation.
Following the interpretation of wireline logs, the Massive Sand interval of the Lower Goru Formation was subjected to a cased-hole Drill Stem Test (DST).
Results confirmed a production rate of 2,000 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) alongside 1.1 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (MMSCFD).
The test was conducted at a choke size of 32/64 inch, with a recorded wellhead flowing pressure of 1,050 pounds per square inch.
Beyond the immediate production results, the Bobi Deep-1 discovery carries considerable strategic weight.
By establishing the Massive Sand as a viable exploration play in the Bobi and Dhamraki Mining Lease, the find has de-risked analogous prospects across the surrounding region, opening new pathways for future exploration campaigns and resource growth in the area.
The discovery is expected to contribute to narrowing Pakistan’s energy demand-supply gap through the development of indigenous hydrocarbon resources.
It will also augment OGDCL’s reserve base alongside national hydrocarbon holdings more broadly.
The result further underscores the continued exploration potential of Pakistan’s sedimentary basins and their capacity to support domestic energy security goals.
OGDCL, as the country’s largest exploration and production company, continues to advance its exploration programme across key acreage positions in pursuit of new discoveries.
