Mozambique Rovuma Venture, a joint venture owned by Eni, ExxonMobil and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), has awarded an engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning (EPCIC) contract for the Coral Norte floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) project located offshore Mozambique.
The Coral Norte FLNG project is being developed by Eni alongside partners CNPC, Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH), XRG and Korea Gas Corporation (KOGAS).
The planned FLNG facility is expected to achieve a production capacity of approximately 3.6 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of LNG.
Once operational, its addition is expected to bring the total capacity at the Coral hub to 7 mtpa, positioning Mozambique among Africa’s top three LNG producers.
Technip Energies will carry out the contract in partnership with JGC and Samsung Heavy Industries, and combined with previously announced agreements on the Coral Norte project, it has a revenue value exceeding one billion euros (approximately 1.15 billion US dollars).
The award has been booked within Technip Energies in the second quarter of 2026.
The Coral Norte project replicates the design concept of the earlier Coral Sul FLNG development in Mozambique’s Area 4 offshore gas block.
A key milestone in the unit’s construction was reached in January 2026, when the hull for the Coral Norte FLNG vessel was successfully launched.
The FLNG unit incorporates technological features aimed at energy efficiency, optimised consumption and reduced carbon dioxide emissions.
Central to the project’s delivery strategy is a standardised replication model.
By drawing on similarities in feed gas composition and deepwater site conditions between the Coral Norte and Coral Sul projects, the partnership aims to support reliable execution and improved operational performance.
The approach also incorporates lessons learned from previous engineering and integration work on the earlier project, enabling the team to reduce risk and achieve more consistent outcomes across the project lifecycle.
This design-one-build-many methodology is intended to accelerate the deployment of new LNG capacity, with broader implications for energy security and supply diversification.
The strategy also reinforces Mozambique’s expanding role in the global LNG market, as the country moves closer to becoming a major contributor to international gas supply.
