Horizon Oil has achieved first gas from the Sinphuhorm Pad D Facility Project in Thailand, bringing the development online on August 11, approximately 50 days ahead of schedule.
Following initial gas flow, commissioning activities progressed smoothly, with the facility completing a 72-hour performance test.
During testing, the PH-14 well on Pad D produced at gross gas rates ranging between 25 and 30 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (MMSCFD). The facility has now transitioned to normal commercial operations.
Located at the northernmost extent of the Sinphuhorm field, the Pad D development targets an area that was historically less effectively drained, unlocking access to a significant portion of the field’s remaining recoverable gas resources.
The new facility will support production across multiple wells. In addition to PH-14, the recently recompleted PH-01ST1 well, the original Sinphuhorm discovery well drilled in 1983, is slated to come online in the near term.
The project aims to boost field productivity, maximise existing infrastructure, and supply reliable domestic energy into the Thai market under long-term, oil-linked gas sales contracts. Horizon holds an effective 7.5 per cent interest in the field.
Horizon CEO Richard Beament said: “Achieving first gas approximately 50 days ahead of schedule and successfully completing the performance testing program are outstanding outcomes that demonstrate the quality of planning, execution and collaboration across the project team.
“The strong initial performance from PH-14, producing between 25 and 30 MMSCFD during testing, validates the potential of the Pad D development and the quality of the gas resources in this part of the field.”
He added that bringing the new infrastructure online early strengthens Thailand’s energy security while extracting greater value from mature assets for project stakeholders.
Horizon will continue monitoring performance as the remaining northern field wells are brought into production.
