JAPAN — INPEX Corporation has completed the fifth stage extension of the Shin Tokyo Line natural gas trunk pipeline through its subsidiary, INPEX JAPAN, LTD.
This milestone marks a significant step in securing a stable natural gas supply for the northern Kanto region of Japan, where demand for natural gas is anticipated to grow steadily.
The extension adds approximately 16 kilometres to the existing Shin Tokyo Line, which connects Joetsu City in Niigata Prefecture to Fujioka City in Gunma Prefecture.
With this addition, the total length of the pipeline now reaches around 229 kilometres.
The newly extended section connects to the Tokyo Line in Honjo City, Saitama Prefecture, thereby enhancing both the stability and efficiency of natural gas supplies to the area.
The Tokyo Line itself runs parallel to the Shin Tokyo Line and spans about 324 kilometres, linking Joetsu City with Adachi Ward in the Tokyo Metropolis.
INPEX is committed to bolstering its energy supply infrastructure by expanding and strengthening its natural gas pipeline network while ensuring rigorous safety management.
The company aims to provide customers with reliable access to natural gas, fostering a sense of security and peace of mind.
The fifth stage extension specifically runs from central Fujioka City in Gunma Prefecture to central Honjo City in Saitama Prefecture and has been designed to operate at a pressure of 7.0 megapascals with a diameter of 508 millimetres.
Construction began in 2022 and has now reached completion, reflecting INPEX’s dedication to meeting increasing energy demands through enhanced infrastructure development.
