Korea-based industrial company, LS Cable & System (LS C&S), has secured a contract to deliver submarine cables for the Greater Changhua offshore project in Taiwan until 2021.
On July 12, LS C&S entered a contract with Denmark’s national energy company, Ørsted, for which it will be supplying submarine cables to Greater Changhua 1 and 2a wind farm.
Changhua 1 and 2a will be located 35 to 50 kilometres off the coast of Changhua County and will have a capacity of approximately 900MW – enough to supply around 1 million Taiwanese households with green power.
The offshore wind farm will feature Siemens Gamesa 8.0-167 DD turbines and is set to be constructed in 2021 and 2022.
President and CEO of LS C&S, Roe-hyun Myung, said that LS C&S entered the submarine cable business in 2009 and has since completed large projects in Europe, North America, the Middle East and other regions.
“Within just ten years the company has gained global competence. Offshore wind power development is becoming more active, especially in Europe and Asia, and continuous growth of the submarine cable business is expected.”
