PetroChina International Jabung Ltd. ramps up production with ambitious drilling program

INDONESIA — PetroChina International Jabung Ltd. (PCJL) is intensifying its efforts to boost oil and gas production above 50,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (BOEPD) through an extensive development program in Indonesia‘s Jabung Block.

The company has embarked on a drilling campaign for nine development wells and exploration activities in the NEB BASE-3 well this year, with five wells already spudded as of June 2024.

PCJL President Director Qian Mingyang reported that the company is currently conducting data recording for seismic surveys and running tests in the NEB BASE-3 exploration well.

The ongoing 3D and 2D seismic surveys, which began in December 2023 in East Tanjung Jabung Regency, are focusing on the Ketemu and Rukam prospects, as well as the eastern part of the Jabung Working Area.

In addition to drilling activities, PCJL’s 2024 development program includes multiple well workovers, the construction of additional production facilities, and routine compressor repairs.

The company is also investing in a pre-feasibility study for an Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) project as part of its firm commitments for the 2023-2043 contract extension period.

Hudi D. Suryodipuro, Head of Program and Communication Division at SKK Migas, expressed optimism about Jabung’s oil and gas reserves and encouraged production-sharing contractors to maintain their exploration and exploitation commitments.

“SKK Migas hopes that the exploration activities run smoothly and yield good results,” Suryodipuro stated.

PCJL’s ambitious plans are supported by its partners in the Jabung Block, including PT Pertamina Hulu Energi Jabung, PETRONAS Carigali (Jabung) Ltd., PT GPI Jabung Indonesia, and PT Raharja Energi Tanjung Jabung.

Beyond its production goals, PCJL is actively engaged in community development initiatives.

The company has implemented various environmental, social, and governance (ESG) projects, including road construction and training programs.

In June, PCJL collaborated with a local community forum to plant 35,000 mangrove seedlings in West Tanjung Jabung Regency, with plans for an additional 16,000 seedlings in East Tanjung Jabung Regency.

As PCJL continues to drive production growth and explore new opportunities in Indonesia’s oil and gas sector, its commitment to both economic development and environmental stewardship remains evident in its comprehensive approach to operations in the Jabung Block.
