ARGENTINA — TotalEnergies has announced the successful start of production at the Fenix gas field, situated 60 kilometres off the coast of Tierra del Fuego in Southern Argentina.
This milestone marks a significant achievement for the energy company and its partners in the region.
The Fenix field is part of the Cuenca Marina Austral 1 (CMA-1) concession, where TotalEnergies holds a 37.5 per cent operated interest.
The company’s partners in this venture include Harbour Energy (37.5 per cent) and Pan American Energy (25 per cent).
The development boasts an impressive production capacity of 10 million cubic meters per day, equivalent to 70,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d).
Key components of the project include:
- A new unmanned platform located within 70 metres of water depth
- Connection to existing CMA-1 facilities
- A 35-kilometre subsea pipeline transporting gas to the TotalEnergies-operated Véga Pléyade platform
- Onshore treatment at the Río Cullen and Cañadon Alfa facilities, also operated by TotalEnergies
TotalEnergies emphasises the project’s alignment with its low-cost and low-emission strategy. The Fenix development is characterised by:
- Low carbon intensity of 9 kg CO2e/boe
- Utilisation of existing infrastructure to minimise environmental impact and optimise costs
Javier Rielo, Senior Vice President Americas, Exploration & Production at TotalEnergies, highlighted the importance of the Fenix project, stating: “The start-up of Fenix production safely and ahead of schedule, only two years after FID, demonstrates the capacity of our company to deliver its projects.
“Fenix will contribute to maintaining our gas production plateau in Tierra del Fuego and ensure a reliable supply to the Argentinean gas market.”
The successful and timely completion of the Fenix gas field project underscores TotalEnergies’ commitment to efficient project delivery and sustainable energy production in Argentina.
