Woodside Energy and its joint venture partners have extended their support for education in the City of Karratha, signing five-year community partnership agreements for the ongoing delivery of the Karratha and Roebourne Education Initiative (KREI).
The extension builds on more than 15 years of investment by the Woodside-operated North West Shelf Project to bridge the gap between the opportunities and resources available to students residing in the Pilbara and their metropolitan peers, and support students on their pathway to employment.
The renewed agreements with the Department of Education and St Luke’s College increase funding provided for programming at high schools in the City of Karratha and extend that support to local primary schools.
Western Australia’s Minister for Education Hon Dr Tony Buti MLA said he is thrilled support for the initiative will continue for years to come, benefitting even more students in the Pilbara.
“It has proved to be a very successful partnership over the years helping many students achieve their best and guiding them to a range of careers.
“I’m sure the new schools participating, and their communities are excited about what is to come, and I look forward to hearing about the work they are involved with,” said Buti.
Woodside CEO Meg O’Neill said the renewed agreements reflected Woodside’s commitment to improving capability and capacity in its host communities.
“Through the Karratha and Roebourne Education Initiative, local schools and their dedicated educators are providing opportunities and supporting student achievements.
“The initiative has delivered strong educational outcomes and its success is a testament to what can be achieved when we work collaboratively with a student-centred approach,” said O’Neill.
Woodside is also a partner with the Clontarf Foundation, Karratha Stars Foundation, Polly Farmer Foundation, Teach For Australia and Exmouth District High School to promote positive educational outcomes.
These partnerships are part of Woodside’s and its joint venture partners’ five-year commitment to invest up to $65 million to support community development in regional Western Australia and include contributions from the North West Shelf, Pluto LNG, Scarborough Energy Project, Pluto Train 2, Macedon, Ngujima-Yin and Pyrenees.
