APA Group has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Santos to explore the development of potential carbon capture and storage (CCS) pipelines for their Moomba CCS facility.
The scope of the MoU is to assess the potential to unlock decarbonisation opportunities by connecting heavy CO2 emitters as well as CO2 import locations to the Santos operated CCS facility in Moomba, South Australia via CCS pipelines.
The partnership will include an assessment of CCS pipeline routes from key emission sources in Gladstone, Port Bonython, and Greater Sydney to the Moomba CCS facility in the Cooper Basin.

Galilee Energy signs MoU for gas supply and development of hydrogen facility
Galilee Energy (ASX:GLL) has executed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding with Queensland Government-owned Energy Queensland Limited (EQL) for the supply of natural gas and to progress the development of a hydrogen facility in the state’s central west.
The terms of the non-binding MoU provide a framework for Galilee and EQL to progress preliminary discussions for the supply of natural gas to the Barcaldine Power Station, in addition to collaborating on the development of a hydrogen facility at the site.
Galilee Energy's Glenaras Gas Project is one of the largest uncontracted gas resources in easter... more
Report claims effects of Beetaloo project are underestimated
An analysis of the projected carbon emissions from the Northern Territory's (NT) proposed Beetaloo Basin gas project, and proposed processing at the Middle Arm gas hub, claims they've been underestimated, as have the availability of offsets to deal with them.
The findings made by researchers at Climate Analytics call into question a key claim from the NT government, with federal support, that there would be "no net increase in life cycle greenhouse gas emissions emitted in Australia from any onshore shale gas produced in NT".
The analysis also calls into question findings in an earlier report from the CSIR... more
Woodside proceeds with carbon reduction proposal process
A Woodside Energy revegetation proposal has been invited to Stage 3 of the Western Australian government’s Carbon for Conservation market-led proposal process.
The Woodside proposal involves planting native species in specified areas within the Gnangara-Moore River State Forest and Karda Block in the midwest of Western Australia.
Under the proposal, planting would include native species appropriate for Barnaby’s Black Cockatoo, with the expectation this will bring biodiversity and carbon sequestration benefits.
Woodside Executive Vice President New Energy Shaun Gregory said the company was pleased t... more
Federal Court blocks work at Santos’ Barossa project
In an attempt to protect cultural heritage, the Australian Federal Court has passed a decision to block the installation of an undersea pipeline which represented the beginning of Santos Ltd’s $5.3 billion Barossa project.
The interim injunction granted by Justice Natalie Charlesworth now casts uncertainty over the company’s schedule of accomplishing first gas production at the project by early 2025.
This injunction followed an application by a traditional owner from the Tiwi Islands, Simon Munkara — whose lawyers stated that the 262 kilometre pipeline would pose a severe threat to the Indigenous com... more
Gladstone’s gas network first in Australia to go green
Construction has officially commenced at a facility that will make Gladstone the first city in Australia with an entire gas network supplying customers with a hydrogen gas blend.
Queensland Deputy Premier Steven Miles visited Gladstone earlier this week to launch works on the project that will be delivered with funding support from the Queensland Government.
Australian Gas Infrastructure Group’s (AGIG’s) Australian Gas Network is building the blending facility to deliver renewable hydrogen into the city’s gas network and will service approximately 770 properties.
AGIG will deliver up to 10 per cen... more
Tamboran increases Beetaloo Basin gas resources
Tamboran has increased its Beetaloo Basin unrisked contingent gas resources by 32 per cent to two trillion cubic feet.
The increase follows the drilling of the Maverick 1V (M1V) well, which has resulted in an initial resource booking within the EP 136 permit and associated resource increase in the adjacent EP 161 permit (Tamboran: 25%) and EP 76 permit (Tamboran: 38.75%).
The changes to 2C contingent gas resources from the previous resource estimate include an increase of:
406 BCF in EP 136
66 BCF in EP 161
11 BCF in EP 76/98/117

Energy companies join forces for offshore wind development
TotalEnergies, Iberdrola and Norsk Havvind have joined forces to respond to the Norwegian authorities' call for tenders for a floating and bottom-fixed offshore wind development for a cumulated capacity of 4.5 GW at two offshore sites in southern Norway.
The consortium will in its offer leverage the technical expertise of its members in both bottom fixed and floating offshore wind, as well as its in-depth knowledge of the challenges, territories and stakeholders in Norway.
If successful on winning the tender, the consortium will focus on strengthening the local industrial competencies and ensuring the succ... more
East Coast Cluster selected as one of the UK’s first CCS projects
The East Coast Cluster (ECC) has been named as one of the United Kingdom’s first carbon capture, usage and storage clusters following a successful bid to the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS).
The successful bid, led on behalf of the ECC by the Northern Endurance Partnership, is a major step towards achieving the UK government’s world-leading ambition to establish the first ‘net zero’ carbon industrial cluster in the UK by 2040. It also represents a significant boost for the industrial heartlands of Teesside and the Humber.

TotalEnergies to develop green hydrogen facility in Flotta, Scotland
Offshore Wind Power Limited (OWPL), the consortium formed by Macquarie’s Green Investment Group, TotalEnergies and Scottish developer Renewable Infrastructure Development Group (RIDG) has announced it is studying the use of offshore wind to power the production of green hydrogen on an industrial scale on the island of Flotta in Orkney, Scotland.
The OWPL consortium has submitted a proposal to the Crown Estate Scotland’s offshore wind leasing round (ScotWind) to develop the N1 plan option area west of Orkney. If successful, its proposal – called the West of Orkney Windfarm – could deliver renewable ... more
Partnership to develop low-carbon hydrogen production in France
TotalEnergies and Air Liquide are joining forces to decarbonise hydrogen production at TotalEnergies’ Normandy platform in France.
Normandy is one of TotalEnergies largest refining and petrochemical platforms. Under a long term contract agreement, Air Liquide will take over and operate the 255 tonne-per-day hydrogen production unit at the platform.
TotalEnergies advises that connecting the unit to Air Liquide’s hydrogen network will help to optimise its performance and, ultimately, develop the world’s first low-carbon hydrogen network. The network already includes a hydrogen production facility in Po... more
Bp achieves early first gas at Trinidad’s Matapal
bp Trinidad and Tobago LLC (bpTT) has confirmed its Matapal project has achieved first gas. The major milestone was achieved ahead of schedule and under budget despite the constraints brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Matapal is bpTT’s second subsea development. It’s comprised of three wells, which tie back into the existing Juniper platform, helping minimise development costs and the associated carbon footprint. It’s located approximately 80 kilometres off the south-east coast of Trinidad and approximately 8 kilometres east of Juniper, in a water depth of 163 metres.
Matapal will deliver ... more
MOU signed for Bayu-Undan carbon capture and storage
Santos, as operator of the Bayu-Undan Joint Venture, today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Timor-Leste regulator Autoridade Nacional do Petróleo e Minerais (ANPM) to progress Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) at Bayu-Undan in the Timor Sea.
The MOU details the areas the Bayu-Undan Joint Venture and the ANPM, with the support of the Timor-Leste Government, will work on collaboratively to test the viability of repurposing the existing Bayu-Undan facilities and using the Bayu-Undan reservoir for CCS.
These include sharing technical, operational and commercial information, assessing the reg... more
