Henrik Melsom has been appointed Senior Vice President of Wood’s Norwegian operations, where he will focus on expanding the business in oil and gas, new energy solutions, and process industries.
Wood currently employs approximately 900 people across Norway, with offices located in Bergen, Stavanger, Sandefjord, Porsgrunn, and Oslo.
Melsom emphasised the hidden potential of Wood’s Norwegian operations, stating: “I think we are somewhat of a hidden secret in Norway.
“Potential employees are positively surprised when they learn about the complexity of the projects we are involved with from Norway. Recruitment across all our offices will be a key focus area going forward.”
Wood’s Norwegian business is heavily involved in energy security, decarbonisation, and the lifetime extension of offshore and onshore assets.
The company supports clients such as Gassco with the operations and maintenance of gas terminals in Europe and Equinor with modifications and engineering to extend the life of their offshore platforms in Norway, the UK, and Brazil.
In the process industry, Wood’s Norwegian operations are engaged in several energy transition projects, including offshore wind, biofuels, hydrogen, and carbon capture and storage.
Prominent clients in this sector include Yara and Ineos.
“At Wood, we get the opportunity to work on both local and international projects from Norway. Energy transition solutions are at the core of what we do.
“We want to attract technical personnel who are keen on working on both domestic and international projects, and developing skills that will provide opportunities to work across the energy sector,” Melsom added.
Ellis Renforth, President of Operations for Europe, Middle East, and Africa, expressed confidence in Melsom’s leadership, stating: “Having Henrik step into the leadership role will give our Norway business real focus, allowing us to continue building on recent growth.
“This is an exciting time for Wood in Norway, supporting clients with new energy transition projects that will make an impact across the region, as well as continuing to decarbonise and extend the life of oil and gas assets, critical to energy security.”
Before joining Wood in 2019, Melsom held various positions at Aker Solutions, including Vice President of Service Engineering Governance, where he was responsible for new services, operational support, digitalisation strategy, and technical governance.
