Subsea7 has secured a major contract award from multinational energy company Equinor for the Fram Sør field development project offshore Norway, marking a key milestone in the expansion of subsea infrastructure in the region.
The contract, valued between US$300 million and US$500 million, covers comprehensive engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) services.
Specifically, Subsea7 will deliver subsea structures and install approximately 53 kilometres of production, gas lift, and water injection flowlines, along with an associated umbilical system integral to the project’s operations.
The Fram Sør development is situated 10 to 30 kilometres north of Equinor’s existing Troll C platform and about 70 kilometres northwest of Bergen.
The new field infrastructure will be integrated into the existing Fram and Troll C facilities, enabling efficient resource extraction while leveraging established assets.
Engineering and project management work has commenced immediately from Subsea7’s Norway and UK offices ahead of offshore installation activities scheduled for 2026, 2027, and 2028.
The contract follows a front-end engineering and design (FEED) contract awarded in January 2025 that helped finalise the project’s technical parameters and supported Equinor’s final investment decision.
Erik Femsteinevik, Vice President of Subsea7 Norway, commented on the award: “This award continues our long-standing collaboration with Equinor.
“The FEED [front-end engineering and design] study enabled Subsea7 to engage early in the field development process, optimising design solutions and contributing to the final investment decision.
“We look forward to working closely with Equinor to deliver the Fram Sør development safely and efficiently.”
The contract is contingent upon regulatory approval of the plan for development and operations (PDO), an essential step before full-scale deployment.
The Fram Sør project exemplifies ongoing efforts to develop Norway’s offshore energy resources by connecting new and existing subsea assets to enhance production capabilities efficiently and sustainably.
Earlier in 2025, Subsea7 also secured FEED studies and contracts for additional offshore projects with ConocoPhillips Skandinavia and Petrobras, highlighting its active role in multiple key subsea developments globally.
These developments reflect the strategic importance of integrated subsea infrastructure projects in meeting energy demands while optimising safety and environmental performance in complex offshore environments.
