Venture Global begins work on CP2 LNG in the US

Venture Global begins work on CP2

Venture Global has announced the official start of site work at its third liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility, CP2 LNG, marking a major milestone for the company and the US energy sector.

The move follows final approval and Notices to Proceed from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), as well as non-FTA export authorisation from the U.S. Department of Energy.

CP2 is Venture Global’s third facility to be built in the last five years, underscoring the company’s rapid expansion and commitment to meeting global energy demands.

The new facility, located in Louisiana, is expected to begin delivering LNG to the global market in 2027.

“Venture Global applauds the Commission and FERC staff for their continued work to advance critical US energy projects like CP2 LNG that support our allies abroad and thousands of jobs here at home,” said Mike Sabel, CEO of Venture Global.

“With all federal approvals now in hand we are excited to announce that we have launched on-site work for this project, which is expected to deliver reliable low-cost LNG to the world starting in 2027.

“ I am proud of our team and their relentless commitment to execution which has enabled our company’s historic achievements and rapid growth from a start-up to breaking ground on our third LNG export facility since 2019.”

Upon completion, Venture Global expects to become the largest LNG exporter in the United States, second largest in the world, supplying LNG to customers in Europe, Japan, and other allied nations.

The project is also set to provide a significant economic boost, supporting approximately 3,000 new jobs in Louisiana — 400 of which will be direct, permanent positions — and generating over $4 billion in local property taxes during its operational life.

At peak construction, CP2 will employ around 7,500 direct construction workers and support tens of thousands of indirect jobs across more than 30 states.

The project expected to bring new LNG supply to global market beginning in 2027, with advanced engineering and off-site module construction already underway, positioning CP2 as one of the most advanced LNG export projects in the US.
