Baker Hughes secures agreement with Woodside for Australian LNG operations

Woodside reports successful reserves update as a result of merger with BHP

Baker Hughes has announced a significant new partnership with Woodside Energy to support its liquefied natural gas (LNG) operations in Australia.

The 10-year services frame agreement, revealed on Friday, marks a continuation of the companies’ long-standing collaboration in the LNG sector.

Under the terms of the agreement, Baker Hughes will provide comprehensive support for Woodside Energy’s LNG facilities.

This includes supplying spare parts, field service resources for onsite turbomachinery equipment maintenance and upgrades, equipment refurbishment, and advanced digital asset performance services.

The partnership between Baker Hughes and Woodside Energy dates back to 1989 and has encompassed numerous collaborative projects.

In 2021, Baker Hughes was selected to supply high-efficiency gas turbine and compressor technology for Woodside Energy’s Pluto LNG train 2 project in Western Australia.

This project serves the Scarborough offshore gas development and facilitates LNG exports to various Asian countries.

Furthering their commitment to sustainability, the two companies signed a memorandum of understanding in 2022.

This agreement focuses on exploring potential decarbonisation solutions, leveraging Baker Hughes’ extensive portfolio of carbon management and climate technology solutions.

Tiffany Pitts, Vice President of Gas Technology Services at Baker Hughes, emphasised the critical role of LNG in global energy security.

She stated: “The stability of LNG must be met with a commitment to proactively advance safety and efficiency while investing in asset health management to drive more intelligent operations.”

This latest agreement underscores the importance of long-term partnerships in the energy sector, particularly in supporting the reliability and efficiency of LNG operations.

As the demand for cleaner energy sources continues to grow, collaborations like this one between Baker Hughes and Woodside Energy are expected to play a crucial role in advancing LNG technology and promoting more sustainable energy solutions.
