Shell Australia Pty Ltd has submitted an application to the National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environmental Management Authority (NOPSEMA) to undertake a 3D Marine Seismic Survey within the Browse and Bonaparte Basin offshore Western Australia.
According to Shell’s application, which is currently being assessed by NOPSEMA, the company is planning to undertake the Factory seismic survey covering approximately 3,750 km2 in Exploration Permits AC/P65, AC/P41, WA-534-P. Another very small portion of adjacent acreage is also included in the plan.
The purpose of the survey is for Shell to acquire sufficient data to fully-image the prospects on the titles.
The Factory Operational Area (OA) is located ~100 km from the Kimberley coast of northern WA and is approximately 200 km from the Indonesian archipelago and East Timor.
If approved, the Factory 3D MSS will be conducted over a period of two to three months from 1 July to 30 December 2019.
It is estimated that NOPSEMA will make a decision on the application by the 29 April 2019.
