Woodside submits revised EP for Angel operations

02 Oct, 2021

Woodside has submitted a revision of the North West Shelf (NWS) Project’s Angel Platform Operations Environment Plan to account for the production from a single well tieback located in the Lambert Deep reservoir.

The Environment Plan submitted to NOPSEMA covers the Angel Facility, including the Lambert Deep Tieback, operated by Woodside on behalf of the NWS Project, as well as a number of exploration wells not linked to the production systems.

As per the Plan, Woodside proposes to perform routine production and associated activities; routine inspection, monitoring, maintenance and repair of the platform and associated subsea infrastructure; and well clean up and commissioning.

The Angel facility is located in Commonwealth waters within licence areas WA-3L, WA-14PL and WA-16L. The Angel platform is situated approximately 125 kilometres north-west of Karratha in Western Australia and has been operating since 2008.

Angel is an offshore not normally staffed production platform that will produce from the Lambert Deep reservoir. Gas and condensate from this reservoir will be processed on the Angel platform then transported via an export pipeline to the North Rankin Complex, and then onshore to the Karratha Gas Plant (KGP) for processing.

Angel’s wells were in production until late 2020 when they were shut-in. Once production from these wells ceased, Angel topsides processing equipment and subsea infrastructure was placed into preservation mode.

Angel topsides processing equipment is scheduled to be recommissioned for the Lambert Deep well tie-back in 2022. Lambert Deep reservoir end of field life is anticipated in 2027 subject to reservoir performance.

Tieback opportunities are continuously being reviewed for Woodside’s offshore facilities, which have the potential to extend the life of the facility which is designed to operate 24 hours per day, 365 days per year.

The participants include Woodside Energy Ltd, BHP Petroleum (NWS) Pty Ltd, BP Developments Australia Pty Ltd, Chevron Australia Pty Ltd, Japan Australia LNG (MIMI) Pty Ltd and Shell Australia Pty Ltd.

The new Environment Plan is currently under assessment with NOPSEMA.
