Queensland Government-owned electricity generation and trading company, CleanCo, has secured a new deal with Senex Energy Limited for the supply of gas to the Swanbank E gas-fired power station in 2022.
The one-year agreement will see 2.55 petajoules (PJ) of natural gas supplied from Senex’s Atlas operation, 20 kilometres south-west of Wandoan, to CleanCo’s highly efficient 385 megawatt (MW) Swanbank E gas-fired power station via the Roma-Brisbane pipeline.
CleanCo Queensland CEO, Dr Maia Schweizer, said the gas supplied by Senex would support CleanCo in continuing to provide customers with reliable low-emission energy.
“Swanbank E plays a critical role in our portfolio, enabling us to provide reliable, low-emissions energy even when there is no sun or wind, and can be called upon at short notice to keep power affordable during periods of high demand,” she said.
“This partnership with Senex means we can continue to blend flexible and responsive gas-fired generation with low-cost wind and solar energy in order to offer low-emission energy at a competitive price to our customers.”
Senex’s Managing Director and CEO, Ian Davies, said the relationship between Senex and CleanCo contributes to security of power supply that helps the recovery of the Queensland and Australian economies.
“Senex will continue to build a portfolio of gas sales agreements that support jobs and regional economies as we partner with commercial and industrial customers for long-term and mutually beneficial relationships,” Mr Davies said.
“Each of our long-term and mutually beneficial relationships – with partners also including CSR, Orora, Visy Glass, Alinta Energy and Southern Oil Refining – reinforces Senex’s significance as a supplier of natural gas to the east coast market.”
